SETBACK TO AVIATION
Received Monday, 7 p.m. LONDON, August 25. Further delays in getting Britain 's lll-fated Tudor airliners into service may result from the crash of the prototype at Woodford, says the Daily Alaii's aviation correspondent. The delay will be caused more by the deaths of the designer, Mr. Chadwick, and tlie chief test pilot, Mr. Thorn, than by the p'lane's actual destruction. Important inodilications to tlie Tudois to meet B.O.A.U. critieisms had reached an ad vauced stage. The wliole future of this type of aircraft depends on the results of the improveuients 011 which a piclced .Avro team, including Mr. Chadwick aud Air. Tliorn, had been working. i'lieir deaths and the ioss of the proto iype Tudor is one of the biggest setbacks British aviation has ever experi enced. Britain was relying on the fudor lo re-establish the prestige of the aircraft industry in the production of ioxlg-range airliners. An Avro official said the Tudor dropped a wing as it was taking off. The wingtip touched the ground and tlien hit some bushes which tore off the starboard aileron.
