SEED MERCHANTS FACE BIG LOSSES
— 'nmr DUNEDIN, August 22. ' The seed trade in New Zealand is facing a crisis with the loss of «hundreds of thousands of pounds to merchants throughout the country. Dominion exporters liolding large quantities of seed bought at high prices during last season, find there is great difficulty in disposing of it to overseas buyers. White clover, Montgojnery fed clover, cow grass, certified perennial ryegrass and Chewing's fgscue aj-e the principal lines which are languishing in stohje. For various reasons the pvice for white clover has declined by about a third in Dunedin, that for ryeg^'ass by about half and there .has been a similar decline in the prices on other 'lines. An important factor contributing to the crisis has been. the embargo | iniposed by the British -Government on I the importatlon of New Zealand white clover and perennial ryegrass. #
