NAKED BANDS RAID THE DOUKHOBORS

Bands of naked raiders, both rnen and women, are swooping on tlie Doukhobor settlemcnts near Nelson, British Columbia, leaving behind a trail of burning schools, honrcslind farm buildings. Onc band is reported to have been led into tlie fornys by a naked woman. Many Doukhobors — a strange religious sect which ciime from Russia in 1899 — have i appealed to tlie police for aid but otliers say tliev prefer to seek the raiders out themselves. The raider.i, who strike in groups of 50 and (50, are said to be radical members of the Sons of Freedom movement, One elfect of the wave of incendiarism is that nearby lumber inills are suft'ering serious manpower shortages because Doukhobor workers are staying home to keep watch.
