PctsohrI Mr. and Mrs. R'. R. Lind and Miss Lois Lind left by car early this week for Rotorua, where Miss Lind will act as bridesmaid to her cousin on the occasion of her marriage to Dr. Paterson, of the Chatham islands. The friends of Mrs. J. 'GrifAths and Mrs. M. Jensen, both residents of Ballance Street, will.regret that they have found it necessary to enter the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. Mrs. GrifRths is now progressing satisfactorily- following an operation. Music Examination Successes Congratulations are extended to seven local students who secured such excelle'nt passes in the recent theory (musical) examinations held at Levin. The results are:— Intermediate harmony: Miss June Roberts 83 (merit) ; Miss Ruth Stevens 81 (merit). Junior: Mi£s Joan Whyte 90 (honours). Preparatory: Miss Beryl Charters 99 (honours). First steps: - D. Spiers 99 • (honours); Elva McEwan 97 (honours) ; N. Spiers 90 (honours) . All students are the pupils of Mrs. R. R. Lind. Letters of Appreciation The secretary of the Shannon branch of the R.S.A., Mr. E. J. Gunning, lias received two letters of appreciation from recipients of food parcels sent by the branch to families of needy ex-servcemen in Fife, Scotland. Mr. G. Hinds, an ex-sergeant of the Royal Artillery, in expressing his appreciation, said that all foodstuffs were on a points system and the added relief provided by the food garcel was most welcome to his family. Mr. James Spears, who is the secretary of the rhornton branch of the British Legion, wrote on behalf of two of his members who had received parcels from Shannon. In order that the local R.S.A. can continue" with this excellent work, an appeal is made to the public for funds. All donations will be gratefully received by the secretary.
