(SPECIAL— FROM
WELLINGTON, This Day. Large fields are engaged for the opening day of the Combined Hunts' meeting at New Plymouth tomorrow, the only exception being the Ladies' Bracelet, in which nine have accepted. In view of the spring racirig approaching form at this fixture will be followed with keen interest.
The main event, the EgmontWanganui Hunt Cup, has drawn three excelle'nt cross country pei'r formers in Ellerton Hall, Royal Scholar and Vernon and, unless something unforeseen should happen this trio should fight out the issue. Ellerton Hall's double jsuccess at the Hawke's Bay-Danne-virke Hunt Clubs' combined fixture at Hastings makes him read an excellent prospect, but the promising young steeplechaser Royal Scholar's three successive seconds shows him up as the one of the field most likely to worry the topweight out of securing the main end of the stake. Royal Scholar is very well and is expected to give a good performance. Vernon's Hastings performance when he , ran Ellerton Hall to a neck decision will be remembered. Vernon is also engaged in the Trial Hunters' Steeplechase, but it is understood that there is every likelihood of his taking his place in the main event. After two good performances at the Hunt meeting at Hastings Precadency will be a firm favourite for the Patea Handicap and the extra two furlongs will be in his favour. Gay Youth's consistency has earned him a high scale in the weights, but being a promising class sprinter he is not without good- prospects. Others holding •edsonably good chances are Gay Chat and Titahi. The last named has been working attractively and is capable of bringing off a surprise. ! Ic is nct a strong field in the iprint, the Waihau Handicap and Prince Revel stands out as a good prospect. He is the form horse in the race. The promising three-year-old Demonic is well forward as also are Black Beret arid Tommy Gun. If Prince Revel is beaten it is likely to come from one of the above mentioned horses. At Addington the new trotting season will be opened tomorrow with the opening day of the Metropolitan Trotting Club's fixture. With no recent running as a guide, last year's form wiil have to be taken into consideration in summing up the fields.
