One Indian road workiaan was killed and another seriously wounded when policemen opened fire on a group of 80 Harbour Board road workers wfio rushed the Singapore dock gates this afternoon. Three thousand Harbour Boaid workers stopp.ed work in sympatliy, and a strike threatens to develop, tying up the Singapore docks. The trouble began when an unarmed polieeman, searching workers as they left the dock area, confiscated a few pounds of rice- which some of the workers were carrying. The workers rushed the gate, where a second polieeman drew a pistol and fired six shots. Both policemen fled down the road, pursued by a mob. A passing motorisi rescued the policemen, one of whom had been seriously beaten.
