BRANCH OF U.N.A. FORMED

REPRESENTATIVE MEET1G IN LEVIN Possibly the most representative gathering ever held in Levin last night unanimously decided on the formation in this district of a branch of the United Nations Association. Representatives of 55 organisatioi\s, incorporating every section of civic life, were invited to the meeting, which was held in the Century Hall. "The'speaker was Mr. Anton Vogt, till recently Dominion organiser of the Association.

Following a review by Mr. Vogt of the principles and work of the United Nations Organisation and the United Nations Association, it was proposed by Mr. E. R. Winkler and seconded by Mrs. M. A. M. Blenkhorn that a branch of the association be formed in Levin. This was carried unanimously. Mr. N. M. Thomson moved that the direction of the branch be in fche hands of a council comprising! two representatives from each of the associations invite'd. This proposal, which was also passed unanimously, was seconded by Mr. R. Antcliff. A suggestion by Mr. H. B. Burdekin that Mr. E. R. - Winkler be elected convener and Mr. J. Corbishley secretary until the branch met to elect its exeeuti.ve officers was adopted. Mr. Burdekin added that he hoped the delegates from the various organisations would

pass on the information they had gained from Mr. Vogt, and stimulate interest in the newly-formed branch. The aim of the association was to publicise the U.N.O., create critical discussions of its work, and eventually convince the people that U.N.O. was the answer to the atomic bomb. The controlling body was the Dominion council, through which films, pamphlets and up-to-date information on all aspects of the activities of U.N.O, # could be obtained. Branches of the association had been set up all over the Dominion, drawing mainly 011 the personnel of existing organisations. When thanking Mr. Vogt for his talk, the convener, Mr. Winkler, mentioned that he was very pleased to see such a large attendance. The first time Mr. Vogt had visited Levin he had addressed an audience of seven.
