Football on Domain As most junior football games for Saturday are cancelled, the Old Boys-College third grade mateh has been transferred to the Levin Park Domain, and will be played at 2.45 p.m. The fourth grade trial match will be played as a curtain raiser on the domain at 1.15 p.m. Boxing Trophies The Levin Boxing Club holds another of its popular tournaments on Saturday, August 30, when a number of good bouts. will be staged. The following donations towards the trbphies have been reeeived by the club: Mr. C. Larsen £5, Mr. O. S. Richards (Wellington) £3 3s, and Messrs. H. Hunt, P. Stewart and B. Bell £2 2s each. Early Draft of Lahibs The first draft of 12 spring lambs off Mr. E. H. Kidd's Waitarere property was sent forward to Wellington butchers this week. These would probably be the first spring lambs to be killed from this district, and were fattened entirely 011 pasture. The abundance of natural shelter on this country would appear to make it specially suited to th^growing of early lambs. Huge Dairy Turnover At the annual meeting of shareholders of the New Zealand Dairy Company it was disclosed that the gross turnover of the company during the past season amounted to £12,246,312, an inerease on the previous year "of £1,991,114. The chairman, Mr. W. Marshall, said that not only had production increased by 18 per cent. but that, despite ail difficulties, a notable improvement in the quality of butterfat had also resulted. Hawke's Bay Lambing Lamb losses in the Hawke's Bay this season have not been unduly heavy. Favourabje weather conditions during the main lambing period enabled many youngsters to beeome sufficiently established to withstand the reeent southerly storms. Twins were not particularly numerous early in the season but more recently they have become quite eommon. Some farmers report higher proportions of twins than usual. At present there appears to be every indication of Hawke's Bay lambing percentages being higher than last season. Young Children on Roads The year 1946 saw a marked inerease in the number of accidents where very young children were injured on the road. The Transport Department's annual report states that last year there were 75 children under the age of five years injured, two fatally, in traffic. accidents. This represents an inerease oi" 127 per cent. over the 33 injured in 1945. The Commissioner of Transport (Mr. G. L. Laurenson) says he feels that probably parents do not realise the dangers small children face on or about the roads, particula-rly on city streets where the traffic is heavy. Dairy Ilerds Suffer Dairy farmers in the- Manawatu have experienced more than their share of trouble from the disease in their herds known as temporary sterility, states the^ annual report of the Agricultural Department, presented to Parliament. "It is also noted that many herds in the district were in very low condition in the early spring," says the report. "This and -similar experiences in past years would make it appear that when feed is plentiful, particularly during the winter and spring, less breeding trouble is experienced among dairy herds. Adequate nutrition and improved husbandry methods in the handling of herds will assist in "overcoming some of the trouble, which is undoubtedly accentuated through our system pf seasopal production."
