West Coast buyers were in the market and the xe- ' eent improvement in tone was maintained though with some pens vendors' vaiuations were not mst. Big framed. fbrward conditioned A.A. bullocks topped the market at £16 2s. Other bullocks sold at from £12 to £15. ,TWo-off; steers made £11 12s 6d and one-of£ steers £9 4s to £10 11s. Good weaner steers made £7 7s to £S 2s 6d with small at £6 Ss. Empty (^ows realised £8 5s "to £8 11s. Two-ofi heifers £9 6s and wfeaner heifers £5 13s. • The beef ^market was entered by Manawatu operators who put new life into the buying activities. Last wefek's improved tone was fully maintained thorigh the entry of 200 head .was larger. Interest was taken in the sale of a consignment of 12 _ A.A heifers only rising three-year-old. These heifers were not big but for quality they were the best seen in.jhe yards this season, selling from £14 3s 6d to £18 3s 6d, an average of about £15 9s. Top price was equalled by a single very well dnished lreifer. A heavy cow brou'ght £15 13s 6d. Prime cows changed hands1 at £13 13s 6d to £14 6s, medium at £11 8s 6d to £12 8s 6d and uniinished at £10 3s 6d to £11 3s *6d. Well finished Hereford and A.A-. bullockg sold at £20 3s Od to £25 16s, the average being jugt on £2'4 7s. Lighter ox were traded at £17 lSs Sd.to £21. Hoggets made up practically the entire yarding of store sheep and although the pens in the main consisted of tailend eonsigninents which were essentially carry over jobs, the inquiry was keen at rates which left little immediate margin. The entry of 2000 head was the small est for some time. Good conditioned wether hoggets topped the •market at 35s ld. Other good wether hoggets made 34s 2d. Poorer conditioned wether hoggets were traded at from 25s to 30s 9d. Down eross hoggets realised 2.6s, ewe hoggets- 27s 6d to 31s 9d and empty two-tooth ewes 29s' 9d. Wethers brought 38s lOd. With quality fat sheep in sliort supply the demand was strong at values fully up to those ruling at recent saies. Wethers made up the greater part of' the yarding, heavy sorts selling at from 45s lOd to 47s 1(1, prime at 42s 7(1 to 44s 7d and lighter at 3Ss 4d to 40s lOd. Extfa heavy ewes were traded at 36s lOd, prime at 31s lOd to 34s lOd and unfinished at 23s 7d to 28s 7d with prime young ewes at 34s. 7d. Very few hoggets came forward, medium sorts making to 38s 10(1. Extra ehoice Down two-tooths sold at 45s 7d.
