WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. The New Zealand Red Cross Society has notified the headquarters of Corso that it has withdrawn from the organisation. This decision was made following a reeent conference of the Red Cross Society at Auckland. In accord with resolutions passed then after the matter had been fully discussed, a letter notifying CORSO that the society was withdrawing was sent to CORSO. The letter will be considered at a meeting of the CORSO executive next week. The letter stated that the step was taken folloWing the dissolutlon of UNRRA, and in conformity with the prineiples. laid down by the board" of governors of the League of Red Cross Societies at a meeting held at Oxford. Those prineiples state- that its. freedom of action and its Red Cross identity must be clearly preserved at all times. - The Red' Cross had two delegates on CORSO— Mr. C. G. White (vicechairman of CORSO), and Miss B. I. Cooke. Mr. White has notified CORSO of his resignation and Miss Cooke may continue in a private eapacity, not as a Red Cross representative. Without detracting from the credit due: to CORSO, the -Red Cross felt it should no longer subordinate its own interests to those of a separate organisation. The Red Cross felt it should control its own work through international headquarters, traditionally free from any influence whieh might detract from its value.
