COMPETITIONS COMMENCE "The first round of the Shannon Badminton Club's competition matches is almost completed. There have been some excellent matches witnessed and in most cases the games have been very even. The results to date are as follows : -Men's Open Championship: G. Fitzgerald defeated S. Chester 15-3; G. Clough defeated D. Richards.15-3; V. E. Tippler defeated A. S. Hyde 15-7; D. Pedersen defeated S. E. Hyde 15-12; L. Burling defeated T. S. Downes 15-9; B. Barber' won by default from T. Roach; R. Grant won by default from R. Parr; O. Tippler won by default from E. Chester. Ladies' Open Championship : Miss M. Fuller defeated Mrs A. S. Hyde 15-7; Miss J. Parr defeated Miss A. Pedersen 15-8; Miss H. Gardner defeated Mrs D. Richards 15-11; Miss J. Pigott defeated Miss C. Burke 15.-9; Miss S. gunley won by default from Mrs T. Roach; Miss S. Johnson won by default from Miss D. Richie. Miss P. Small and Miss G. Forbes liave yet to play. Men's Handicap Singles: D. Richards defeated T. S. Downes 15-8; G. Clough defeated O. Tippler 15-12; G. Chester; Miss J. Pigott and D. Pedersen. Miss C. Burke and G.. Fitzgerald defeated Miss P. Small and B. Barber 15-6. Tftq local club ' have yet to play the concluding- inter-club match in the Horowhenua Badminton Association's competitions against Manakau. It is expected that this match will be played within the next few days and the club will then be in a position to complete the final rounds of their championships. Something of a novelty has been arranged in the way of interclub activity for this evening, when a team from the - badminton club will meet a team from the local table tennis club in a table tennis tournament. It is expected that a return match, in which the table tennis club will try their hand at badminton, will be arranged as soon as badminton activity is completed for the season.
