AUCKLAND, August IS. After 10 -months of planning, in vestigating ancl surveying by engineer of the Auckland branch of the Publi-.-Works Department, the ten-year plai for Auckland announced in April lax year by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, is beginning to take shape. The first construction lilcely to begn. in the near future will probablv in volve the widening of the Great Sout" Road. The adoption by the Government o the Auckland Harbour bridge proposa. has resulted in modifications of th' plan originally announced. The ehiei of these is a major change in the pro posed high speed road through Whenua pai to the north. A major work not included in th ten-year plan, but of similar im portance, is ' a proposal to provide Auckland with a civil airport. Every available member of the engineering staff of the department i'n Auckland has been occupied on the surveys, investigations and costing of the jobs that between them represent an ex penditure of possibiy £10,000,000.
