He was David Hankin, aged 50, cliicff cook of the motor ship "Waiwera. Attracted by the sound of a splash two inembers of thc crew found Hankin in the water between the ship and the wliarf. A rope was secured round liim and he was pulled to the wliarfside where artilicial respiration was applied witliout sueeess.
