Aetualiy the landed "costs had progressively mcreased- to an aggregate of 2d pei gallon since the iast price adjustmenl was made' but the Government had de:ided to reduee the wholesnle and ,-etail margins each by a half-penny per j-alion. The consumer vyould tjierefort pay pne pepny per gallon inpr.e. The reseller's margin whicb was now 31 d per gal-lon, had been rednced to ,3d. This rptail prolit margin was ineyensed from 3d to 3|d during the war wReii rationing eonsiderably reduced t belmount of petrol sold, but after a car.eful exaimnation of the present inancial posi-tion of the industry, tlic Joverninent had decided to revert to he former margin which was con udered to be a fai'r one. At main ports the new retail price wili be 2s 8id per gallon.
