Received Saturday, 9.30 a.m. NEW DELHI, August 15. Both the Viceroy, Lord Mopntbatten, and the leader of Ihe Provisional Government, Pandit N.ehru, received an ovation from the crowd when they arrived at the Constituent Assembly today. Pandit Nehru appealed to the crowd. to stand hack. Lord Mountbatten thrust his hand from the coach win- % ow and shook hands with one of the crowd, receiving a f^emendous cheer. Women fainted when the huge throng broke the police cordons.
The Associated Press says a rain- 1 fyow stole the show at New Delhi ceremonies when Lord Mountbatten §aluted the flag of India before a crowd of hundreds of' thousands. Almost at the moment when an Ipdian Army officer pulled the lanyard which loosed the new flag in tjie breeze a brilliant rainbow appeared. Lord Mountbatten salutedi as the shouts of thcasands greetedj the omen in the sky. Lord Mountbatten arrived ,in a j jiorse-drawn coach with troops and . lancers making a way through-thei crowds. He was given a great reception when joined by 'Pandit Nehru.
