SOME PROSPECTS TOMORROW AT RICCARTON

L. M.

M.)

(Snecial— From

WELLINGTON, This Day. = Banshee four.d nine furlongs too far for her last week, but it is well to remember that she was promment until the last furlong. Witn a furlong less to run tomorrow she is not without good prospects. Fading Light appeared to be well beaten in the Spreydon Hurdles last week with five furlongs to go, but she battled on for third, her experience' earlier at the meetirg has done her good. She has an engagement in the Styx * Hurdles tomorrow. Sandy's Pride was last away from the barrier in the Woolston Hack Handicap last Saturday, and the Royal Chief mare did well to run' eighth. -With better fortune at the start she. will be-a prospect in the hack event chosen for her tomorrow. She is in the Longbeach and Redcliffs Hack Handicaps. The distance of the Spreydon Hurdles, two miles, proved too far for Ruling Moment, though the task was made harder when he was left- with no option but to set the pace. Tomorrow - the shorter distance of the Styx Hurdles will be more to his liking. The Wirgatui trainer, J. A. Wilson, has four horses at the meeting, and has already scored with Lorna Leigh, Detain and Lord Dundonald. The other candidate he has yet to place successfully is Bobby Dazzler, who is engaged in Redcliffs Hack tomorrow. ° Afton Water made a creditable showing for third in the Woolston Hack Handicap after being handy to the lead all the'way. It was his first appearance at Riccarton and the Croupier gelding is expected to improve. He is engaged in the Longbeach Hack tomorrow. Bravura will have to master 11.9 and Fairyhouse 10.11 in the Hunt Cup tomorrow, but they will have a weak field to contend with and unless Cloister falls again it will be hard to find opposition for tHem. Bravura has stood his racing better than Fairyhouse, which failed to leap well in the Beaufort. Though Lorna Leigh is likely to be a firm favourite for the Selwyn Har dicap tomorrow Southerners are firm in their opinion that Frances is the better prospect. She has been unlucky at the meeting. Special Flight will have a final opportunity among the hacks tomorrow when she contests the Longbeach Handicap. She rau a game third to Beechwood and Deficiency on the first day after being unlucky at the start. Sho has drawn the outside position 32.
