Findon Again A "Hot" Fancy

L.M.

M.)

(SPECIAL — FROM

WELLINGTON, This Day. The concluding day of the Grand National meeting, at- Riccarton tomorrow, will see Page's Raid make an attempt to complete the double in the Lincoln Steeplechase. Since the race was first run iri 1899% only four horses hold the honour of winning . it twice, namely Omahu in 1922 and 1923, Tuki in 1926 and 1927, Slayer in ,1939 and 1940, and Anglo-French in 1942 and 1943. The field tomorrow is weak, but for all that it may be a good race. There were only three starters in 1939 but Slayer and Bridegroom had a grand fight, with Slayer the winner by a neck. Can Page's Raid add his name to the above double winners' of the race? His prospects certainly lbok bright. No doubt he will be the public fancy.

Fields in the other events on the card, with the exception of the Hunt Cup Steeplechase and the Sydenham Hurdles are large and it js on the cards that. a few surprises might be in store for patrons. A fresh horse in the Longbeach Hack Handicap with plenty of pace and well forward is- the .Levin trained Soar. The furlong less in the Redcliffs Hack should..,suit Banshee, who faded over the last furlong in the Sumner Handicap last week. Findon, who .will be ridden by W. J. Brough'ton in theHeathcote Handicap, is again a hot favourite. Favourites for the four manu events at Riccarton are: Sydenham Hurdles.— Duality. Heathcote Handicap. — Fihdon. Lincoln Steeples. — Page's Raid. Selwyn Handicap. — Loma. Leigh. The Hawke's Bay Hunt meeting will conclude at Hastirgs tomorrow while the Pakuranga Hunt Club's annual hxture will be held at Ellerslie. Betting will be win and place at all the above meetings, prospects for which are published on this page. . -
