POOR SHOW FOR PRIVATE MOTORIST
Received Thursday, 7 p.m. LONDON, August 14. The Board of Trade has asked the Britisli motor manufaeturing industry to increase the export quota from 60 per eent to 75 per cent. The industry agreed only two months ago to increase the quota from 50 to GO per cent. but will opposc further increases on the grouiuls that the number of vehicles left for the home market is msufficient to maintain necessary transport. Theoretically, however, the Board of Trade has the last word beeause it ean ration the steel allocation to motor vehiele manufacturers if they do not coiiiplv with its requirements. At present British car production is approximately 30,000 monthly but owing to the steel shortage this is expected to drop to 26,000 monthly. When Government departments have taken their requirements from the balance left for home use, . private motorists will receive fewer than 6000 vehicles monthly to satisfy a waiting list which already is estimated at over half a million.
