WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

IHAKARA' S AUGUST MEETING The August meeting of the Ihakara Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs. Butt presiding.v A letter was read from the institute's link in England, acknowledging food parcels forwarded and expressing particular thanks for the fats included. Mesdames Gardner and Butt volunteered to pack parcels for the link, members being feminded to bring a small piece. of houschold; soap for inclusion 'in '"them. Mrs. Doyle was presented with a box of lily. bulbs in recognition of her kind thoughts during the year. The rally to be held "at Ihakara on September 4 was discussed and members were asked to each bring a plate. Mrs. Armstrong was the guest speaker for the afternoon and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her talk. Competitions were won as follows: — Vegetable: Mrs. Wilmhurst 1, Mrs. R. J. Rolston 2, Mrs. Haslock 3. Shrub : Mrs. Gardner 1, Mrs. Brooks >.2, Mesdames Hibbell and Doyle 3 Cequal). Flower: Mrs. Armstrong 1, Mrs. Turner 2, Mesdames Hibbell and Wilmhurst 3 (equal) . Points: Mrs. Butt 1, Mrs. Ivan Taylor 2. Mesdames Lancaster and Ivan Taylor were in charge of a bring-andr-buy stall. A ' dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Trotter, Stewart and R. J. Rolston, after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
