FINANCIAL'S RACING CAREER HAS ENDED
A BLANK return during the season just ended means the end of Financial on the course, Mr. H. E. Edmunds having decided to send the seven-year-old son of Inflation and Manurewa to the stud. Financial raced for'five seasons and won over £5000 in stakes. At two years he ran seven ^times, registering a third placing in the Juvenile at. the Pahiatua meeting. Next season he was saddled up 18 times, finishing third at Woodville before breaking his maiden status at Awapuni. Two close seconds followed at Tauherenikau. Another first at the Pahiatua meeting, and a second and a third at Feilding showed him up as a potentiai stayer. This he proved at four years when in 16 starts he ' scored live firsts, two seconds and a thira, his successes being in the Wairarapa Cup (in which he beat a hot favourite in Irish Note, and also Longsword); and at Foxton, Bulls and Woodville. He then went on to Hastings, to win the Hawke's Bay Cup, 11 furlongs, in 2.17 — N.Z. record time. In 19 runs at five years he scored five firsts, a second, two thirds and two fourths, in little over a week winning the Manawatu Cup and Louisson Handicap at Awapuni and the Wairarapa Cup a second time, carrying 9.5. He won the King George Handicap at Awapuni, and after carrying 9.5 into second place behind Rink (7.11) in the Wanganui Cup, won the Earle Stakes under 9.8. The apprentice J. B. Bowness was associated yfith most of his successes, though A. G. Waddell rode him later on when Bowness left for Trentham. A fine stayer himself, Financial should prove a' success at the stud.
