PUBLIC SERVICE CLAIM FOR OVERTIME

WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. A strong protest against rhe rejection by the Public Service Commission of the Public Service Association claims for overtime and a penal rate were made by the Wellington section committee. Ninety-eight of the 100 departmenial representatives attendmg voted for a resolution regarding the commission's statement that the association's claims could not be granted because overtime was being abused. The resolution passed said: "We resent this as an aspersion upon the many thousands of public servants who willingly accept an extension of their working hours in order to cope with .an increasing volume of work aggravated by staff shortages in many departments." Full support was pledged to the national executive in any action it may take to obtain satisfaction, and it was requested that the matter be placed before the forthcoming conference as a matter of urgency and that the conference be asked to undertake a national campaign in support of the association's claims. ________
