ADVERTISING MANAGERS IN CONFERENCE
WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. Opening the third annual conference of newspaper advertising maragers in Wellington yesterday, tne Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. A. H. Rive, said that the newspapers of New Zealand were among tiie best in Ihe world. "There is seldom a mistake, unless 1 make it myseli'," said Mr. Rive paying a Iribute to ihe accuracy of reporiuig by New Zealand juurnalists. The High Commissioner said he held llttie hope of relief in newsprint supplies.- The world demand for wood p'dp and its by-pioducts from Canaaa, he said, was increasing. "Additional capital has to be found, plants require enlargirg, and so on," said Mr. Rive. "We have to recognise those facts, and do the best we can. I see no prospect of aiiy rapid improvement." It was not wl-se that advcrtisers should be. subject to control by r.ewspaper owriers any more thar editorial writers should not be permiited to express opinions freeiy. Personally, he had found New Zealand advertising attractive, but he thoughi theie was still room for improvement.
