OTAKI HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
That interest' in the meetings of the Otaki State School Home anb School Assoeiation is gaining momentum was evidenced at the August meeting, when a large attendarce was presided over by Mr. R. Bills, president. After the formal business, consisting of a welcome to a new member, the authorisation of the issue of prnited notices, the election of hostesses for the next meeting to be held in October, ar.d the announcement that there would be a parents' day at the school early in the third .term, the meeting settled into a most enlightening discussion on topics set out in the form of questiors which the 'parents of the school had sent in during the month. All questions were fully discussed and some excellent points for and against expressed by both parents and teachers. "The Nelson System of Bible Teaching in Schools," "Consolidation of smaller school on larger ones — advantages and disadvantages," "School Cooking Classes" (a very lively topic) , "School Uniforms" (divided opinion, most parents being of the opinion that the brighter. dress materials were more easily kept cleair, and a male member of the staff stated that he preferred some colour in his class, and not one drab design) ; "School Sport," "The Deterioration of Spelling" (Evidence was provided that showed spelling was quite as sound today as it was many years ago), "The Cinfema as a Teaching Aia" (decided to place suggestions before ihe School Committee to have oue irstalled at this schooF . Other questions had fco be shelved in the meantime, and the most instructive "and interescing meeting was brought to a close when supner was serv^d.
