SCOTS BRING FIERY CROSSES TO LONDON
Received Tuesday, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. Twenty-five runners from the Scot ish Athletic Association have arrived in London from Edinburgh with fiery crosses, the Scottish symbol that the courtry is in danger, which were last brought to England in 1745 when "Bonny Prince Charlie" marched south. The runners worked in relays and eovered 407 miles in 47J hours. They carried ten crosses, rine of which will be sent overseas by air to advertise the Scottish exhibition of industrial design, opening at Edinburgh on August 25. One cross is arriving at Sydney on August 15 and another at Auckland on August 16. The other crosses are goit g to Canada, South Africa, the United States, Belgium, Denmark, Prance and Holland. The crosses, which were made fyim branches of a birch tree, were b'ghted before the runners left Edinburgh They will be relighted wbcn they arrive at their destination. Sir George Wilkinson received the cro^s for England on behalf of the Lord Mayor of London. I
