The South Afrieaii Goverument has notified the United Nations that it would not subuiit a- trusteesliip agreement coveriiig the tenitory of Southvvest Afriea but would contimio to ad■minister it in the spirit of the existing (League of Nations) niandate, and would subinit reports at intervals to
Ihe United Nations. The Government added that the territory would be given direct representation in the Parliament of the Union as an integral part of it, but the Union would not proceed with the incorporation of the territory. The United Nations General Assembly last December rejected the South African proposal- to annex the tnandated territory -of Southwest Afriea and ealled on the Union Government to subxnit ' the territory to_ the United Nations for trusteeship.
