In ' a radio broadeast t'rom Batayia the cfiaihman of the ; Assoeiation, the Clrinese' Minister, Eiung Yan- Yuan, -said the .Chinese ; agreed that the - Indonesians should secnre their freedom but that did not mean that the repubLic shoilld fol'get the potential rights of the Chinesfe. Since the Japanese surrendel' Chinese in Indonesia had repeatedly been murdered, plundered, despised and squeezed in every way imaginable by the Indonesians. ' In' June and July, 1946, 1831 Chinese residents of Tangerang, including 385 women aiid 291 children, were more atrociously murdered than 1 the Japanese did their enemies. Chiha was not at war with Indonesia yet the socalled Indoiiesian army treated them more like enemies. The republic frequently proved powerless to control the army and people, so rnuch so that at present the property and lives of Chinese were still in danger. The chairman suggested that the republic should be called upon by the United Nations to cease liostilities within 24 hours and return a thousand Chinese taken away as prisoners. He asked '100.000,000 guilders indemnification and for the vigorous punishment of Indonesians who had committed the atroeities. Iira message to the Security Couneil Sui'ialc Artalega wa, leader of the Pasundan Separatist movement in West Java, protested against Mr. Sjahrir representing the republic at the Security' Couneil and the United Nations. He said his party approved heai'tily of the police measiu'G taken by the Netherlands Government. The republic was -not able to maintain ordor or cease hqstilities4 ... .
