GIRLS' CHARGES AGAINST NEW ZEALANDER
Received Monday, 9.50 a.m. CAPETOWN, Aug. 9. The parents of seven of the native girls who alleged they had been beaten by Reginald Stephen Garfield Todd, an ex-New Zealander and a British missionary who is superintendent of Daday's mission, told the court where Todd is undergoing a preparatory examination to 59 charges of assault, that they wished to withdraw the' charges against Todd. Earlier in the hearing most of the girls admitted they had been guilty of .insubordinalion, but added that they would have preferred corporal punishment to expulsidn from the school. Some of the girls told the court they preferred to be beaten on the buttocks rather than on the hands because it was less payiful. The preparatory examination was adjourned until August 16.
