SCOTS SENDING OUT FIERY CROSS
Received Fridav, 7.0 p.m. LONDON, August 8. A fierv eross — the ancient inethod of Summoning Beottish clans — is expectea to reach Auckland by air at 3.30 p.m. on August 16. It is one of a number of crosses 1,-eing sent to all parts of the world eonveying a niessage to Beottish people overseas about the "Enterprise Bcotland 1947." At a gathering at Edinburgh Castle, Bir John Falconer, Lord Provost, read a niessage to all Beotsnien, the crosses were lighted and then extinguishcd in the traditional manner in goat 's blood. They were then haiuled to athletes who are running with them in relavs to London. They are due at tlie Guildhal! on August 11 when they will be received by the Lord Mavor of London. A representative of B.O.A.C. will take eharge of the eross for New Zealand and an aircraft carrying it will take oll' from Heath Row on August 12. "Enterprise" Bcotland" is an exhibit ion of products of -Beottish industry and it will be open from August 25 to Beptember 30. An international festival of niusic and drama will be held at tlie same time. This festival is described as one of the most exeiting gambies Bcotland ever made and it is claimed as a success before it starts. Already 100,000 of 165,000 tickets have been sold. These saies represent £50,00U vvhich is only £10,000 short of the original foundation fund. One-fifth of the tickets have been sold overseas.
