ATTACK ON ROUND WORLD RECORD
CHICAGO, August 7. Clutching a bag of ehieken sandwiches, 27-year-old Bill Odom climbed into a converted Army A26 attaek i boraber at 1.53 p.m. New York summertime today, and took-'- off on the first leg of a round-the-world solo flight. Odom, who is flying the "Reynolds Bombstiell,J — the plane in whieh he ano the millionaire Milton Reynolds set a round-the-world record last Aprn — hopes to halve the late Wiley Post's 1933 round-the-world record of ISp hours. He will snatch six hours' sleep at Karaehi and another six hours at Tokio— the only sleep he will have m the entire trip. H«is amended route is now Chieago, Gander, Newfoundland, tlience non-stop to Rome, then Karacni, Shanghai, and Tokio. He may, if ttie weather is extremely favourable, ht extra petrol tanks at Tokio and fly direet to Chieago on the last leg. Odom was last reported to have reaehed Paris and to have set out ior Karaehi direet.
