♦ HASTINGS, August 6. Quality was not so well featured as in reeent weeks when an entry of 5000 head of store sh'eep was yarded at Stortford Lodge today. On soine lines the biddiug was inciined to bo hesitant, the general opinion being that some buyers vvere awaiting Mr. Attlee's statenient on Britain's fmancial crisis. A large draft of ewes in lanib to liomney rams, hardy constitutioned sheep, were oli'ered. Two-tooths made MOs'Gd, four-tooths 31s Od and 33s 9d, six-tooths 29s to 29s 3d, four-tooths 2.Ss 9d and five-year 29s. Empty two-tooth ewes realised 31s 9d and mixed aged iniarab ewes 28s 6d. Pat sheep, about 1000 head of which were yarded, again soid on a strong market, values being firm. Heavy welhers made 43s 4d to 44s lOd, prime 40s Id to 42s ld and lighter 34s lOd to 39s 4d. Pi'ime ewes were traded at 31i ld to 32s lOd, unlinished at 27s lOd to 28s lOd and extra prime young ewes at 37s lOd. Prime hoggcts brought 36s ld 1o 37s ld and others 25s to 33s 7d. With an entry of 650 head, the larg ost for some weeks, keen intorest was laken in the store cattle market. Competition was keen : and the market was 1irm, particularly for big bullo'bks whiclt are hard to buy. The olfering included some attractive quality. Top price of the season, £16 ,16s, was obtained for forward conditioned A.A. steers. Other bullocks brought £13 17s 6d to £14 ,12s 6d. Rising three-year steers realised £10 15s, rising two-year steers £8 12s 6d to £l0 2s, with one pen passed in at £10 11s. Weaner steers made £6. Values for in-calf eows ranged from £8 2s 6d to £9 and for empty cows from £7 2s 6d to £9 17s. Empty grown heifers made £10 2s 6d and rising two-year heifers £7 16s to £8 17s 6d. JJeef buyers found several vendors unpreparcd to meet the market when the values offered were at about schedule. The first offerings, 40 heavy cows and heifers, were passed in and as a result the butehers were operating steadily to the end of the sale of 230 head. Yery little ox beef caine forward and what there was lacked finish, selling at £18 Is to £18 8s Gd. Prime heifers were traded at £12 18s 6d to £13 6s and medium at £11 ls to £12 13s 6d, prime cows making £12 3s 6d to £1 3 8s 6d, medium £1 0 1 Ss 6d to £1 1 ls and unfinished £9 18s Gd to £10 8s Gd.
