Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, August 5. The Kon Tiki raft expedition reports its- position now well in among the Tuamotu Island chain. Several days ago the scientists saw the flrst land in three months "but the vagaries' of -wind and- .£ide . prevented a landing on tiny Puka Puka Island. _ \ At present the expedition is slightly norfch of Angatu Island and directly in lifle to touch Takume atoll. The men hope to attempt a landing although unknown currents, projecting sho_'e lines and lowlying reefs will present difflculties.
