WELLIXGTOX, August 6. Robbers were abroad in Wellington last night. The premises of the Lom mereial Fnion Assuranee Company Ltd. were brolcen into by burglars who revealed a considerable knowledge of the oflice, found the hiding place- of the key to the strong rooni, jeinruied two cash boxes, removed another and also vvent th rough the drawers of about fort\ desks, the lotal takings bei'ng about £70. While Mr. and Mrs. John Shelly slept, an intruder entered the bedroom of their flat, took her handbag and his suit to the back door wliere he left tliem after talcing £40 from a wallet in the suit. Xo one in the house, not even the dog, hear-d the intruder. An unsuccessful attempt was made about 10 p.in. to break into a hairdressing saloon by throwing a stone through the glass panel beside the loc.k. The robbery was foiled by a newly installed special lock.
