RUGBY ADMINISTRATION

The management commttee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union met at Levin on Tuesday night. The president, Mr. - A. Gillespie, was in tli.0 chair Mr. C. E. Wiseley, on the recommendaHon of the Referees' Association v/as nominated to the New Zealand Rugby Football Union as an inter-provincial referee. A letter from -T. McDonald was received, askmg for a transfer from the Punahau Club to Foxton. This was granted subject to a clearance being received from Punahau before the next playing Saturday. Another player, R. Broughton, was given a clearance from Wanderers, and can now play for Punahau when required by that club. The eommittee's attention was drawn to the fact that at the recent representative match several players failed to notify the team managers that they were unable to play. It was decided tc recommend to the selectors that any player, who without explanation does not play in representative games when notified, should be stood down for the next representative match. Three teams were granted leave to play friendly games. Tokomaru and Waikanae asked for permission to play a friendly match on August 16. This was granted subject to there being a ground free for the game on that date. Otaki-Rahui seniors were granted a friendly match with Petone on Saturday next. The committee expressed appreciation of a letter received from jVtr. G. S. Chester, of Shannon, explainrng his action in refereeing a junior game at Shannon when the appomued referee failed to appear at the ground. A letter of thanks will be sent to Mr. Chester. , An offer from Mr. j. Rose to strip and paint the goal posts at the Levin Park Domain during the summer was received by tbe committee. Mr. Rose also offered to assist in the work of lifting the concrete post holes and squaring the field. The members of the union placed on record its acceptance and appreciation of this offer. A decision was made to hold a fourth grade representative trial in Levin on August 23.
