. . « SHANNON DEFEAT OTAKI In a fast moving match played on the Shannon Domain on Saturday, the local fourth grade football team defeated Otaki" by 1"4 points to 6. Shannon had- tlie better of the game from the opdning whistle and it was not long b'efore they were in the visitors' twenty-five, Where; following a series W smart mb'ves, Shearman scored in the •"corner. Andrew failed to add the V extra pointsf When play resumed after the kick-off Harris took the ball through at his toe and went across the line to bring Shannon's score to 6. Vinsen failed td convert. Harris, who was playing very good football, added further to his team's points when he scored another brilliant try. Andrew again failed to convert; In a fast move from the visitors' twenty-five, Vinsen. touched down between the posts for Andrew to add the extra points. Just before the whistle for half-time Otaki were awarded a free-kick and a very nice kick went. over the bar for h'alf time to sound with the score at Shannon 14, Otaki 3. ' - - The second 1 half opened with Otaki on. the attack, but the local boys played a great' defensive game and prevented their opponents from crossing the' line on all but one occasion, when Jeffre'y scored but failed to convert his try. The game concluded with the ' score at Shannon 14, Otaki 6. •
