BOY "SLEUTHS" TO BE REWARDED
NELSON, August 1. The Nelson Jockey Club intends to make a presentation to three boys, Jiicliard Iverridge, Alasdair Clark and Anthony Clark in recognition of tlieir action on. the Nelson racecourse on April 19 when they detected two Aus tralian pick-pockets operating among the crowd, watclied tliem for some timo and then reported tliem to the poliee. resulting in the arrest of the two men. One of the men pleaded guilty to the charges arising from the bo.vs' informa tion and the other was found guilty by the jurv in the Nelson Supreme Court where the lads gave evidence. They were congratulated by Mr. Justice Cor nish. The boys had accompanied tbeii [larents to the races. Nunibers of Nelson race patrons have indicated a desire to express appreciation in a practical manner, of the boys' keen observations wliieh undonbtedly saved quite a number from being relieved of money by the pick-pockets who are now serving a tenn of 21 nionths' hani labour. It is felt that the Nelson case will make the public in other places "piekpocket cojiscious, " and so queer the [litcli for tlie operation of any simiiar tindesirabies at race or trotting meetings in the future. Tlie Nelson Jockey Club has invited all racing and trotting clubs. and the public if they so desire, to make contributions to the presentation fund. Tf the aniount of the fund provcs consideral>le it is suggested that the gift be earmarked for tlie purpose of tlieir further education.
