SHANNON' S JULY MEETING
The July meeting of the Shannon Women's Institute was presided over by Mrs. W. Easton (president) and there was a good attendance j of mcmbers. Mrs. Currin, a guest i from Linton, was warmly welcom- ! ed. ! Owing to Mesdames L. Stratford and R. Lang having left the disj trict, Mesdames E. Thome and A. Church were appointed to fill the vacancies thus caused on the committee. Members were reminded ihat a Paddy's Market would be held on October 17, tne proceeds of which will go to ihe annual Anzac dinner fund. Mrs. J. T. Bovis again helped out with the entertainment | copipetition for the group rally. i The moteo for the month was read | by Mrs. Currin. The president asked Mrs. Currin to convey the j Shannon's Institutes' congratulaI tions to the Linton W.I. on gaining | first place in the drama festival. In honour of July birthdays, Mesdames E. Thorne, T. Bell, L. Tremewan, B. Hateley and Currin each received a buttonhole. Afternoon lea was served by the hosresses, Mesdames H. Foote, Foote, R. P. Lester and E. Chester, aLer which Mrs. Currin gave an interesting and instructive clemonstration on pewter work. Those who received goods to parcel up and send to England were Mesdames M. Parr, W. Radford, C. Stcrn and A. E. Burling. The rolling penny competition was won by Mrs. J. A. Easton. Monthly compe itions resulted as follows: — Best bluom: Mrs. M. Parr 1, Mrs. C. Stern 2, Mesdames W. Easton and H. Stern (equal) 3. Cluster: Mrs. Parr 1, Mrs. Stern, 2, Mrs. Easton 3. Shrub: Mesdames J. A. Easton and H. Stern (equal)* 1," Mesdames C. Stern and W. Easton (equal) 2, Miss Joan Radford 3. Gloves: Mrs. J. Swindlehurst 1, Mrs. W. Easton 2.
