WOMEN PRISONERS BURNED TO DEATH

Received Thursdav, 10.40 p.m. PARIS, July 31. Lightning probably began a fire in Tourelles Barracks in which 22 women prisoners were burned to death, says the Associated Press correspondeut. II is believed lightning struck a chimney and ignited eelluloid aiid acetone witb which the woiiien were working, turning their third floor roorn into a gaseons furnace. The imprisoned women screamed and fought against the bars.1 The bodies wheu brought 'out were oniv slightly burned. Apparently the women died of asphyxiation. Warders marshalled o.ther women prisoners into the courtyard wliile the brigades fought the fire.
