MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD
MONTHLX MEETING The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage ' Board was held in the board office on Monday evening and was presided over by Mr. S. W. Barber (chairman) . Also present were Messrs. G. Cull, N. I. Easton, W. H. Smith and the clerk (Mr. G. V. Fraser) . An apology for absence was received from Mr. E. R. Robinson. The clerk reported that the bank balance was in credit to the extenh of £47 3s lld. The balances of the main ledgef accounts were as follows: General accoirnt, credit £40 Os 6d; interest account, credit £7 3s 5d. The report was received and ! accounts amountihg to £229 10s ld iwere passed for payment. The foreman (Mr. W. Kruse) reported that during the month the staff had been engaged in attending to floodgates and clearing away drift wood from the drains and bridges, trimmmg, dragging and shovelling slips from Wall's outlet drain and the Kari. A letter was received from the Manawatu-Oroua River Board advising that the board chairman had rnspected the main drain floodgates and had found that No. 3 gate required some a'ttention to make it operate satisfactorily. The gates had, however, operated fairly well during the recent flood and if the drainage board would top No. 3 gate up and wire it the river board would meet the expense rncurred. • . The chairman ' said that the gates had cost a lot of money and were still unsatisfactory. . The river board's suggestion was a temporary measure only, and he would Iike to see the job completed properly. It v;as decided to do as the river board suggested, but only as a temporary expedient and on the understanding that the river board would put the gates in order as soon as possible.
