Reeeived Thursday, 11 a.m. .a BATAVIA, July 30, Duich warships and bombers have begun an attack on Java's main south coast port of Tjilatjap, ; says a Republican communique issued tonight. It adds that Dutch warships and planes are alternatively shelling and bombing the port. Observers in Ratavia predict an early landing in the vicfnity of Tjilatjap. Meanwhile, a Dutch column adVancing south from the recentlycaptured port of Tegal has reached Bumiaju, half-way to Puwukerto, in what appears to be an attempt to cut the island in two between Tegal and Tjilatjap. A line from • Tegal to Tjilatjap has often been mentioned as the probable limit 6f the intended Dutch advance^ to West Java. A Republican communique says that one plane has been shot down during the Tjilatjap attacks. It claims that the Republicans are still ressiting fiercely in Central Java. In East Java fighting is still continuing , at Tjerm.ee, west of Sourabaya, where a Dutch plane strafed a truckload of Indonesian prisoners-of-war, fnjuring several. The communique also claims that the Republicans are resisting in several places in the difficult mountain countrv south of Bahdung, in the vicinity of Pengalengan, where there has been a consider able amount of fighting.
