AVERAGE EARNINGS IN AUSTRALIA
Received Mondav, 7.45 p.m. MEIiBOUENE, July 28. The average earnings in Australia at present are 7 to S fier cent. above wartime and the immediate post-war level, according to hTr. H. Brown, heacl of the researeh section of the Commonwealth Bureau of Statistics. Giving evidence in the standard liours case before the full Arbitration Court, he said that no definite conclusion could be inade on how the 7s increase in the liasic wage, granted last December, had affeeted earnings bocause that effect was ^ obliteraterl by other factors. The basic wage inei'easo miglit ac-foimt for a 4 per cent. increaso in average earnings.
