VISCOUNT MONTGOMERY AT ROTORUA
EOTOEUA, July 28. Arriving by car yesterday afternoon after having flown from Gisborne to Rukuhia aerodrome, Field Marshal Vis •ount Montgomerv was officially wel comed to Rotorua at noon todav aftei visiting the Servicemen's Convalesceni tfospital in the niorning. In replying to the welcome the dis tinguished. visitor stressed the poinl cliat he was more interested in people i than in things, for people formed tiu character of a nation. It had beei. said that he was there to make peace but that decision did not lie in his hands although he could help. Later in the afternoon he was given a Maori welcome at Ohinemutu and met returned servieemen in the R.S.A. hall. This concluded the official pro gramme and Yiscount Montgoniery goes to Hamilton tomorrow niorning.
