Personal Miss A. Sands has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. R. Roberts, Vogel Street. Mr. V. Picard left on Friday evening to spend a few days in Auckland. Mr. W. Thomson, of Featherston, was a weekend visitor to Shannon as the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomson, Nathan Terrace. The Mayor of Shannon, Mr. R. E. Downes, has received advice from His Excellency the Governor General of his appointment to the Land Saies Committee. Mr. Downes will be leaving for Wellington this week to take up his new appointment. Mrs. H. Atkinson and Miss O. Atkinson, of Rotorua, Mr. and Mrs. J. Crowther and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. Crowther' and family, of Palmerston North, Mr. and Mrs. M. Tippler, of Carterton, and Mr. and Mrs. G. Forbes, of Wellington, were visitors to Shannon over the weekend to attend a family reunion in connection with birthday celebrations of Mrs. Crowther, Senr., of Clapham Street. Preparations for Ball At a recent meeting of the Shannon Badminton Club it was decided to hold a second post-war annual ball this season. Preparations have commenced for the function, which will be held on September 8, and promises to eclipse the outstanding success of last year. A novel scheme of decorating for the Druids' Hall has been planned and the publicity committee has commenced an extensive advertising campaign.
