Saluti ng each other with deei>throated siren blasts thc world 's two mightiest liuers Queen Elizabeth and Que'en Mary passed withiu half a mile of each other last night for tlic first time 'in their history off the Isle of Wight. Thousands on shore and in small motor launches and ferries watched as Elizabeth steamed out of Southampton to pass the waitiug Mary which liy.il. been out in the Cliannel 011 trials after her refit to put her bae.lr in the transAtlantie passenger service. Planes circled overhead as the ocean queens greeted each other with three short and three long hooter blasts. Mary then sailed into Southampton to talce up the berth vacated by her sister liner.
