Spirit of the Battlefield

Speakmg at the civic and services' reception in Palmerston North, Field-Marshal Montgomery said he was very pleased to be associated with New Zealand exservicemen and to meet members of the Returned Services' Association, who fonned the guard of honour. Honorary membership of the N.Z.R.S.A. had been conferred on him, and he had joined similar organisations in Great Britain, Canada and Australia. He was very proud of the association, and took it to mean that returned men wanted to carry into civil life the comradeships of the battlefields.
