FIRST BRISBANE-WELLINGTON CROSSING FOR MONTHS

WELLINGTON, July 28. The first vessel ro maka a direct Tasman crossing between Brisba'ne and Wellington for some months arrived at Wellington this morning. It was the Shaw Savill liner Wairangi, which brought 92 passengers to New Zealand. The crossing took four days. The Wairangi was in ballast,- having to discharge all outward cargo at Australian ports. . Among the passengers was the former chief engineer to the Government of Bombay, Mr. W. Garrad, who is spending a holiday in New Zealand before entering retirement in England. Another prominent passenger was Mr, A, J. Byron, Australasian general manager of Schweppes, Ltd., who is visiting New Zealand in an attempt to revive the company's aerated ,vater plants.
