GAMING COMMISSION'S BIG JOB

WELLINGTON, July 2.3. If tliere was a good deal of tedious rep-etition in the evidence presented be- 1 fore the Gaming Commission, which recently concluded its open sittings, what | of the task upon which it is now en 1 gaged — the careful sifting of the vast ■ mass of evidence preparatory to thc drafting of its report? The prelimin ary statenient of tlie New Zealand Racing Conference alone totalled 11,000 j .words and was followed by almost as voluminous submissions from dozens ot other organisations and individuals. Tedious or not, however, tlie work ot ! the Commission must go on and th-e m dications are that its report will be ready some time towards the end of the present session of Parliament. Infovmation gathered in the lobbies of Parliament House, hoiv-ever, suggests that Parliament will not have time this year to discuss the report. That it will be lengthy goes vvithout sajing, but it is reliably stated that its magnitude will not approach the mammoth proportions of the report presented by tli-e Commission which recently rexiorted upon the liquor trade.
