INTERESTING POSITION OVER AUCKLAND MAYORALTY

AUCKLAND, July 25. Yesterday ;s selection by the Citizens' and Ratepayers' Association of ( Sir Ernest Davis as the association 's candidate for the Auckland mayoralty has created unusual interest. Commenting today the sitting Mayoi (Mr. J. A. C. Allum), who was tht ■association 's candidate at the last elec tion, said he was led to believe that the association was of the opinion that no Mayor should stand for more than twu terms, but that was a matter which* ITe felt was for the people, as a whole, and not for a small group to decide. "I do not pretend to be a big financier, nor am I a big bnsinessman 1 am just a citizen who is willing t.u lead," Mr. Allum stated. O11 behalf of the Citizens' Association .it was stated to the press today that Sir Ernest Davis' had indieated that he would stand for the mayoralty "under certain conditions". Sir Ernest is 'at present in Rotorua.
