Dutch Captures Will Relieve World Shortage

Millions of pounds sterling worth of tropic proctucts to help relieve world shortages have been 'captured by tiie Dutch forces in their swiit moves on East and West Java, according to official information from the Netherlands East Indies Economic Affairs Dircctorate. The first estimates of quantities indieate that they will exceed expeetations. Most of the Dutch, British and foreign-owned estatcs arc in a negleeted condition, hut only a few factories were damaged. The Chinese suffpred most. i\o difficulties in obtaining labour for rehab.litation are expected. The largest accumulatcd stoeks are at Clieribon and Probolinggo. None of the stoeks was destroyed in Cheribon harbour, but at Probolinggo stoeks of rubber and tobaeeo were set ablaze by the retreating* Eepublieans. The latest estimates of rubber stoeks at Cheribon vary between 20^,000 and 25,000 tons. Experts have been rushed to the port to start selecting grades and prepare them for shipping abroad immediately to relieve the Netherlands East Indies Government 's financial position. The aceumulated stoeks are to be registered but financial adjustments will not be allowed to interfere with the immediate start with reconstruction.
