NELSON TURNS ON ITS BEST SUNSHINE.
NELSON, July 24. The welcome given Viscount Montgomery by the people of Nelson this afternoon was the most enthusiastic ever accorded a distinguished visitor to the citv. In brilliant sunshine the big gest crowd in Nelson 's history assembled at the churcli steps for the iivic reception. Viscount Montgomery arrived by plane from Westport and after the eeremonv left by7 air for Blenheim for the third official funetion of the day. When "Montv" stepped frohi tlie plane on arrival he had an informal chat with the group of bystanders, the subjects discussed being Nelson 's sunshine records and its apples. He remarlced on his fondness for apples and two children present went home and re turned to the aerodrome with an apple each which they presented to the Field Marshal before his departure. His parting words were: ' ' Thanks for the apples "
