The Portsmofith pianning and reconstruction committee has appfoved u scheme submitted by thb Admiralty and Impetial War Graves Cdmmission t'or th'e Royal Naval war memorial at PortSmouth. 1't is' proposed to mdke tfie existing naval war memorial which was erected on Southsed Gommori aftei' the first world war "the t?entral featurh of the new memorial; A new approaeh to it in the shape bf a 300-yard widt avenue divided into two 100 feet roadways with centrai quadrupal lines oi trees, will be construeted, with a terrace and sunken garden on the landward side. The names of the 45,001officers and men of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines who lost their lives ih the second world war will be insciibed on the walls of the terrace.
